En 1960, quand cette méthode a vu le jour, les rares professeurs de guitare n'avaient que peu de formation. Ce n'est plus le cas depuis que les conservatoires ont ouvert leurs portes à cet instrument. Le professeur pourra choisir l'ordre des morceaux et donner les conseils à suivre selon les possibilités de l'élève. Cette méthode s'adresse aussi bien aux débutants qu'aux élèves avertis, et peut être utilisée aussi bien avec un pédagogue que par un autodidacte.
