Sheet music for one or two flute
Instrumentation: For one or two flute and in-line accompaniment of a Caribbean orchestra
Caribbean music is part of our cultural heritage. They borrowed and adapted rhythms and harmonies from our European music; they were transformed in contact with indigenous peoples rooted in this region of the globe, to create their own musical identity. A strong African specificity gives them a particularly dancing and swaying character.
The flute is a very present instrument in this music, both in the French Caribbean (flute des Mornes) and in the Spanish Caribbean.
We will discover throughout this volume, a good number of syncopated rhythms specific to each of these musics. In this regard, rhythmic exercises will be offered in the form of small audio patterns, extracted directly from the pieces.
I also advise you to sing all these melodies in full or in small extracts; appropriation by transmission and oral appropriation is more effective and will undoubtedly strengthen the rhythmic reading of these complex rhythms.
Do not hesitate to look for your own musical games in movement and dance, and rely on the accompaniments played by percussion, bass and piano (playback only version) to find the rhythmic supports that will help you to interpret. the melodies of this collection. It is advisable to think of the white beat in all the pieces at 4/4.
The indications of phrasing (points, links, various accents) are important indicators for playing in the style; you will find in the flute version 1 and in the accompaniment a way to interpret this music. It's up to you to find yours!
