The duo formed by Ida Presti and Alexandre Lagoya always placed great importance on pedagogical transmission and on promoting their instrument. In the late 1950s, Éditions Max Eschig presented the couple with a dual commission: each was to compose a collection of six studies for solo guitar. Ida Presti and Alexandre Lagoya accepted, and in 1958 both published their respective volumes, each entitled Six Études. Within private archives, we discovered that Ida Presti’s original manuscript in fact contained seven studies. We therefore undertook a collaborative revision of this “Étude No. 7,” with the aim of remaining as faithful as possible to the composer’s musical intentions and to the interpretative choices she might have made.
