According to a treatise on choreography written in 1782, Weber was one of the first composers to use the modern form of the slow waltz for his “Invitation to the Waltz”. Then came the Austrian, Johann Strauss, and Beethoven composed eleven Viennese waltzes for seven wind and stringed instruments…As for Schubert, Liszt, Brahms, Chopin and Ravel, they followed the lead at different times and in different styles: noble waltzes, sentimental waltzes, sad waltzes etc…each intended to convey a certain style.
