Trained as an organist and pianist, Rico Truxillo was born on the 29th April 1918, and is a very good composer, a concert musician, an improviser, an accompanist, an excellent songwriter and a high-class orchestrator. Before becoming one of the very best of contemporary tango composers and players, Rico Truxillo led a first-rate Latin American band. Then he started on a long tour of gala performances in the major European capital cities, before settling down in Paris. Apart from the originality of his melodies, Rico Truxillo has a very personal style, which doesn’t stop him from being wide-ranging in his themes. This can be more fully understood on the basis of “Tango in the Rain”, “Malambo de Paris” or “Hoy” and “Voz”.
